Is Black Mesa same as Half Life?īlack Mesa was once a humble video game mod - but as of today, it’s a full-fledged remake of Half-Life, newly released out of Steam Early Access. Also available for free is Half-Life 2 and its two episodic expansions. This is basically a two-month-long trial you won’t get to keep these games. Is Half Life 2 free forever?įor the next two months, each of the Half-Life games will be free to play on Steam. The engine was able to run on most systems, low-mid settings looked comparable to other games at the time and high settings still look decent by today’s standards. I believe the answer to this is the engine.
That’s why it’s still the best, and that’s why I’m still playing it. The fact is that Half-Life 2 still executes its concepts, conceits and mechanics more effectively, deftly, and powerfully than almost any of its imitators have in the 10 years since.
